Dear Green Thumb members, Today we have received
the sad
news that our friend and fellow Green Thumbs member, Joanne Loynd, died
yesterday of the cancer that she fought so hard for so long. As many of
you
know, up until a month or so ago Joanne was active and involved with her
family
and many Concord activities. In fact, she was one of the members of the
Green
Thumbs committee that undertook the restoration/rejuvenation of
Mandrioli Park
this spring, and even attended planning meetings in between hospital
visits---never telling the others of her hospitalization. Joanne,
incidentally,
got us started on this project a year ago when she "persuaded" members
of her
family to accompany her to the Park on a hot summer day for hours of
trimming
and taming the Burning Bush hedge.
When we pass by the Park
we will
always be able to remember her---her enthusiasm, her love of West
Concord, and
her friendship.
Visiting hours will be
at the
Concord Funeral Home on Belknap Street on Monday, the 12th, from 4 to 8
PM. A
funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church on Tuesday, the 13th, at
10 AM
with burial following in Sleepy Hollow.
The family has requested
that
contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society
or
Warners Pond (so close to Joanne's heart and indefatigable attention).
Addresses
can be found in her published obituary.
The West Concord Green
Thumbs will
send flowers. And here I am looking for suggestions: if any of you know
Joanne's
favorite flowers would you let me know so that we can honor her in the
best
possible way.
